Ex-USC QB Shaw says Browns roster spot ‘in God’s hands’

first_imgCOLUMBIA — Connor Shaw played briefly in the Cleveland Browns final preseason game against the Chicago Bears.Getting in the game late, he did not throw a passes but rushed six times for 20 yards.The former Gamecocks quarterback is fighting for a roster spot on a team that also has Brian Hoyer, Johnny Manziel and Rex Grossman.Shaw hopes he has displayed enough ability to earn one of the Browns 53 spots on its final roster that must be set by Sunday.“I feel like I have played well when I’ve gotten a chance to play in games and in practice,” Shaw told reporters following the game. “Overall, I feel confident.”Shaw played extensive on only one game, a one-point loss to the Washington Redskins in Cleveland’s second preseason game. He completed eight of nine passes, one of which resulted in a touchdown.If he doesn’t earn a roster spot, there is a chance he could be offered a position on the team’s practice squad.“It’s nothing I can control,” said Shaw. “I’ll put it in God’s hands.
