Categories: News 26Jan Speaker Cotter announces new committee assignments Speaker of the House Kevin Cotter, R-Mt. Pleasant, today issued the following statement announcing new committee assignments for the House of Representatives:“Last week, all eleven Democrat members of the House Committee on Appropriations declined to serve as the minority vice chair. Since having a minority vice chair is a crucial part of the budget process, a new Democrat who is willing to put politics aside and serve the people must be named to the committee. State Rep. Harvey Santana, D-Detroit, will now take on that role.“I have met with House Minority Leader Greimel to discuss the decision of his caucus members and expressed how troubled I am with their decision to choose politics over the work of the committee.“No one wants to see this kind of manufactured drama in their state Capitol, so I am putting a stop to it. With a $50 billion budget to balance and 10 million Michiganders counting on us, we simply don’t have time to put up with ridiculous stunts. We need lawmakers who will put the work of the people first. Rep. Santana has always been focused on serving the people, and I am counting on him to help us all move on and move forward.”The changes to the committee assignments are as follows:Representative Harvey Santana will replace Representative Pam Faris on the House Committee on Appropriations.Representative Harvey Santana will replace Representative Pam Faris on the House Fiscal Agency Governing Committee.Representative Pam Faris will replace Representative Harvey Santana on the House Committee on Financial Liability Reform.Representative Pam Faris will replace Representative Harvey Santana on the House Committee on Military and Veterans Affairs.
