The Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Florida isseeking applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professorposition to join the faculty. The Assistant Professor isresponsible for leading interdisciplinary translational researchteams focused on brain tumor biology and therapeutic development.The candidate will direct nationally recognized research programswithin the Preston A. Wells Brain Tumor Therapy Program in theDepartment of Neurosurgery at the University of Florida.The applicant is expected to have experience in the followingareas: 1) cancer stem cell and somatic stem cell assays such asquantitating stem cell frequency, in vitro isolation, propagation,and expansion, in situ manipulation, transplantation and methodstargeting cancer stem cells in models of neoplasia; 2) brain tumormetabolism and immunometabolism with current/future focus ondeveloping therapeutic approaches exploiting the metabolicinterplay within the tumor microenvironment, especially betweencancer stem cells and immune cells.Research and scholarship responsibilities may include developingindependent, federally funded research projects, and publication.Successful applicants are expected to contribute to research,education and service missions of the department and college.Rank and Tenure status will be commensurate withqualifications.Required Qualifications:M.D., Ph.D or M.D./Ph.DPreferred Qualifications:The ideal candidate will lead preclinical efforts in therapeuticinterventions in the context of brain tumors and will have ademonstrable track record in scholarly research. Expertise in braintumor research in the areas of cancer stem cells, metabolism andimmunotherapy and other approaches to novel treatment modalities.Significant experience with brain tumor models, generation andengineering of patient-derived primary cell lines, development ofcell culture systems, and animal procedures is needed for theposition.
